Enhancing High Performance Teams – Defining our way forward to Win Well

Members from the HP 2032+ Strategy Enhancing Performance Teams Working Group recently met in Melbourne for a two-day workshop to further their work for Horizon 1 of the strategy.

The Enhancing Performance Teams Working Group has spent the past few months collaborating on a number of crucial activities, which include developing guiding principles to optimise functioning performance teams, incorporating ethical and inclusive practices, and outline minimum standards and benchmarking best practice.

ASC High Performance Coach Development Manager Bill Davoren, who is the co-Activity Lead for the Enhancing Performance Teams Working Group, said: “We had some rich conversations and discussions across the two days. It was a really good mix of coaches, practitioners and leaders within the system that were ultimately trying to optimise the way we support athletes as a team, working together effectively with our collective expertise as a source of competitive advantage.”

Fitting in with the Horizon One theme of ‘Refining and Extending our Foundations’, the group were able to leverage and review the past as a platform to then explore how it may integrate and interact with the HP 2032+ Strategy’s vision to Win Well Win Well.

ASC Manager of National Performance and National Performance Support Systems and co-Activity Lead for the Enhancing Performance Teams Working Group, Miranda Menaspa, said: “We retrospectively looked at where we have been, how we got there. We critiqued, what we need to hold onto, change and let go. We spent considerable time mapping our interactions with athletes and across teams.”

The group will now spend time in the coming months to draft, socialise and finalise the guidelines and standards that will be adopted and implemented for 2025 and beyond.
